Transition to Leadership

It is often assumed that effective team members will be able to lead others well. However, the skills, insights, and vision required of successful leaders don’t always come naturally; new leaders must learn, practice, and fine tune the essential leadership qualities and skills over time.

The focus of CMOE’s Transition to Leadership workshop is to introduce new and aspiring leaders to the opportunities and challenges that leadership roles provide. This workshop exposes new leaders to the obstacles people often encounter when they move into positions of leadership; they are also given strategies and tools they can use to overcome the challenges that are most common. The topics presented, in combination with CMOE’s unique approach to the learning experience, puts new leaders on the right track and increases the likelihood that they will be successful in their leadership roles.

Our Approach

CMOE’s Transition to Leadership workshop accelerates the development of new leaders because it provides a learning experience that focuses the mind and heart of a world-class leader. We use a design approach that incorporates self-discovery so that participants feel a compelling need to change and adapt to their new roles and responsibilities. The Transition to Leadership program can be customized to meet the exact areas of focus that have been identified as priorities for new leaders in the organization. We can also provide a framework for participants to work from that incorporates the organization’s leadership-expectations model into the workshop materials. As with all of our workshops and products, we utilize the following adult-learning principles to provide an engaging and practical learning experience for all participants:

  • Discussions
  • Short presentations
  • Simulations and exercises
  • Models and skills
  • Survey feedback
  • Case studies
  • Tools
  • Action plans

The real-world application and sustainability tools, combined with the learning and practice opportunities offered during the workshop, give new leaders the skills and confidence they need to excel in their role.

“One of the tests of leadership is the ability to recognize a problem before it becomes an emergency.”

~ Arnold Glasow

“Commitment is achieved one member at a time. It cannot be attained through a mandate or through force.”

~ The Team Approach: With Teamwork Anything is Possible

“The leader who can enlist cooperation and respect, without having to pull rank, has power of the most positive kind.”

~ David Crawley
