Coaching for Success

Leaders tell us that while they recognize the need for communication and coaching, they lack the skills to do it or come across to their partners as being controlling. The Coaching Skills Workshop addresses this gap by strengthening the ability of leaders to coach team members, while maintaining accountability for results and minimizing defensiveness.

The goal of Coaching is to create a deeper sense of "partnership" in the workplace. To accomplish this, the Workshop provides leaders with a roadmap based on 28 years of ongoing research that they can use in supporting and guiding the change process with team members. In addition to strengthening the skills of leaders in partnership communication, the Coaching Skills Workshop initiates measurable change in team involvement, empowerment, and quality improvements.

While the Coaching Skills Workshop concepts are not a prescription nor a script, the skills do provide a valuable framework to guide leaders in all types of discussions. Coaching Skills can be applied in discussions about successful performance (encouragement and reinforcement) and unsuccessful performance (problem solving and motivation for change). Coaching can also be used at the beginning of new projects or with a new team member (clarification and goal setting); during performance reviews, career counseling, development discussions and whenever there are new changes in business direction that are necessary to maintain a competitive edge. Whatever the situation may be, coaching skills are a valuable tool in accomplishing these objectives.

The Coaching Skills Workshop is designed to build a high level of confidence and establish practical skills in individuals so they can interact with team members in a way that motivates action, drives out fear, and creates bonds that will enable people to accomplish the goals of an organization. When these skills are applied, leaders will be doing something different. They will be communicating more like a coach!
